In small-town Australia, a nightmare is brewing. Sophie (Lauren Last) is a young trans filmmaker obsessed with finding a thought-to-be long-lost film. Meanwhile, an earthquake unleashes ancient parasites that thrive on hatred, causing outbursts of violence. Struggling with dating and their shitty jobs, now Sophie and her friends also have to face off against an ancient evil that spreads like wildfire. T BLOCKERS is equal parts gross-out comic horror and heartwarming coming-of-age story. It's a loving homage to queer cinema of the past, a "power of friendship" comedy that centers trans experiences, and a middle finger to the bigots of the world.

While just 18, T BLOCKERS is director Alice Maio Mackay's third feature film. Mackay's previous movies, SO VAM and BAD GIRL BOOGEY, helped put her on the map, and she's already found a cult following. With T BLOCKERS, her best yet, she creates a neon-tinted, unapologetically queer horror film brimming with youthful energy and a punk attitude. Channelling Gregg Araki and John Waters in this playful and defiant sci-fi horror, Mackay feels like the heir apparent as the Queen of the Queer Gross Out. The film also features bookends hosted by a horror TV host (think Elvira but even more drag) in the form of DRAG RACE DOWN UNDER superstar Etcetera Etcetera. Though it is an empowering and essential film, please don't mistake T BLOCKERS for a social-issues film — it has a lot of heart but is also delirious, gut-wrenching camp. – Justine Smith
